Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before spinning across the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
