Vehicles in German Town Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Officers mentioned they were contacted by a man who found a car in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say early analysis indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.

City officials said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.

A high-ranking representative commented the incident made him without words and had to be resolved quickly.

"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
